The Normandy Region and Normandie Livre & Lecture, with the festival "Les Boréales" organized an exceptional meeting with Barbara Hendricks on Monday 18th November 2019, as part of Normandy for Peace. About a hundred people attended the event.

The birth of her activism 

The classical singer come back to her full career in the musical field, but also her private life. Her story is punctuated by encounters and high points (collapse of the Berlin wall, en of apartheid...) that gave birth to her will to act for Human Rights. She also confesses always keeping with her a copy of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, from which she quotes the first article : "All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood."

 

Her actions for Peace

The artist comes back to her commitment to the questions of refugees, through her status of Honorary Lifetime Goodwill Ambassador of the United Nations Refugee Agency.

Partisan for helping "one family at a time", Barbara Hendricks remains humble in her efforts.

In 1998, she also created the Barbara Hendricks Foundation for Peace and Reconciliation to support her struggle for the prevention of conflicts and to facilitate enduring peace.

On this 18th November 2019, she joined the 400 signatories of the Manifesto for Peace.

 

A call to action

Barbara Hendricks concluded encouraging everyone, at its level, to act for Human Rights and Peace.  

Better than citizen's rights is citizen's responsibility.
