Deliberate and select the three finalists for the Freedom Prize

24 young people from 15 to 25 years old made up of 15 girls and 9 boys aged 20 years on average. In this jury, 6 come from Normandy (Orne, Manche, Eure, Seine-Maritime), 6 come from France (Vendée, Haute-Savoie, Sarthe, Isère, Var, Essonne) and 12 come from all over the world (Burkina Faso, Madagascar , Togo, United States, Canada, Colombia, Cambodia, India, Spain, Ireland, Lebanon, Egypt).

For two days, on February 14 & 15, they will have to join together and form only one voice in order to study the 167 people or organizations submitted via the call for proposals “Our Freedom Prize 2020”, to deliberate and select the three finalists. After an initial elimination phase which will only retain 10 semi-finalists at the end of the day on Friday 14 February, the jury will have to decide between them on Saturday 15 February to select only 3 finalists at the end of these two days of deliberations.

Before that, a day of preparation for the role of jury awaits them on Thursday 13 February to reflect on the concept of freedom, individual and collective freedoms, but also, to formalize a common grid of criteria which will guide them during their deliberations.

The deliberations are supervised by the International Institute for Human Rights and Peace, through participatory human rights education activities based on respect for the opinion of others and mobilizing skills such as the ability to work in a team, critical thinking or argumentation.

But also discovery of Normandy

The international panel of judges gathers in Normandy from Wednesday 12 to Tuesday 18 February 2020. In addition to the deliberations, this stay is an opportunity for all the members of the jury to spend several days together and discover different emblematic heritage sites Norman, including some strong symbols of the fight for freedom, during organized visits. Among these visits, the city of Honfleur and its old port, Le Havre and its architecture classified as a UNESCO heritage site, the landing beaches of June 6, 1944 or the Caen Memorial museum.

And after ?

Once the 3 finalists are known, an online vote organized from March 9 to June 6, open to 15-25 year olds from around the world, will allow them to decide between them and choose the winner of the second edition of the Prix Liberté.
