Chaired by Rony Brauman, the former President of Médecins Sans Frontières, the 2022 Freedom Prize’s panel of judges made up of twenty-two young people from eleven countries considered 254 applications "Our Freedom Prize 2022' and nominated the following three people and organisations:

Mohamad Al Jounde, founder of the Gharsah school in his refugee camp; the school supports Syrian refugees by providing education and psycho-social support to strengthen the resilience of children, teenagers and women.

Child’s Right and Rehabilitation Network (CRARN): founded in Nigeria, CRARN provides medical, psychological and humanitarian support for street children who are victims of discrimination after being branded witches or wizards.

Theresa Kachindamoto: traditional chief of the Dedza district in Malawi, known for her activism to promote education for both girls and boys and to fight child marriage.

Young people aged 15 to 25 from all over the world are encouraged to take part in the online vote of the 2022 Freedom Prize, from 15 March to 25 April, to choose the winner of the prize:

The 2022 Freedom Prize will be awarded during a youth-focused event at the Zenith in Caen on 31 May. The winner will receive the Freedom Prize trophy, created by students at Institut Lemonnier in Caen, along with a cheque for 25,000€ to support his or her cause.

Young people awarded the Freedom Prize in 2019 to the young Swedish activist Greta Thunberg for her fight for climate justice. In 2020, the Freedom Prize was given to Loujain Al Hathloul, freed on 10 February 2021 after 1,001 days in prison in Saudi Arabia, for her fight for women’s rights in her country. In 2021, the young Afghan rapper Sonita Alizada received the Freedom Prize for her fight against forced marriage.
