In the aftermath of the Normandy World Peace Forum, on June 6, 2019, nearly 800 Norman ambassadors gathered around the world to celebrate peace by picnicking.
Peace picnics organized around the world
The regional promotion agency Normandie Attractivité organized picnics for peace, on the occasion of the Normandy World Peace Forum and the 75th anniversary of the D-Day.
Embody the values of Normandy
In the continuity of the Normandy World Peace Forum, Normandie Attractivité has set up, on Thursday, June 6th, picnics for peace. This initiative has a twofold objective: to promote the image of Normandy, as well as the values of peace and freedom that it intends to embody.
The principle is simple, each ambassador of Normandie Attractivité is invited to organize a moment of friendliness and sharing wherever he is in the world. The ambassadors come from different backgrounds and are not necessarily Norman, but all have in common their attachment to the region.
Simple but also symbolic, these picnics are an opportunity to discover Norman culture, including its gastronomy. With friends, family or a company, picnics this year have gathered 800 people around the world, 300 more than last year for the first edition.
An international dimension
The most important picnics were held in Normandy, notably in Caen, Evreux and Jullouville. Elsewhere in the world, we can notice big cities such as Sydney, Seoul, New York, London, San Francisco or Tamatave in Madagascar.
Today, Normandie Attractivité has 4,400 ambassadors all over the world. This action is part of the Norman will to cross borders to create an international community united by the attachment to Normandy and its values, and thus strengthen the international scope of the region and its Normandy World Peace Forum.
