THE RED CROSS On Saturday 19 January 2019, the French Red Cross organised its annual day to promote international humanitarian law, in partnership with Normandy for Peace, the International Institute of Human Rights and Peace and the University of Caen.

During the 6th edition of the Red Cross’ national day to promote humanitarian law, students from French universities and military schools put their knowledge to the test with a twelve-question quiz on international humanitarian law, the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement and international criminal law. Five teams then competed in a moot on “New Technologies and International Humanitarian Law”.

The panel’s prize was awarded to Nour Assaf and Vincent Biehler Pallasse, from the Rhône delegation of the French Red Cross, who debated “the catachronic limits of international humanitarian law in the face of cyber warfare”; the public prize went to Baptiste Waroux and Marion Launay, studying for a Master's degree in the law of freedom at the University of Caen, who debated “violations of international humanitarian law through the use of drones”.

This event has been accredited and supported by the Region as part of Normandy for Peace’s call for initiatives. The Red Cross is a long-term partner and attends the Normandy World Peace Forum every year.
