Yemen, once known as Arabia Felix (Happy Arabia), has been decimated by the now-entrenched civil war that broke out in 2014. This complex conflict pits the internationally recognised government against the Houthi rebels and southern separatists. The country’s geostrategically important position – between the Middle East and the Horn of Africa – is attracting attention and interference from Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Iran, all major rivals engaged in conflict by proxy. How can peace between all sides be achieved?
