Sylvie Brunel worked for NGOs for seventeen years. Specialist in development, then in sustainable development, she shows how this concept is used in international cooperation and in the strategies of actors, States, companies, humanitarian and environmental NGOs. She works mainly on famines, which was the subject of her doctorate in economics and her professorial thesis, conducting research in geography, primarily on the topic of world food security. She is also a novelist and has published several geographic novels and obtained the 2009 Pégase Prize (Cadre Noir of Saumur, IFCE) for Cavalcades et dérobades (Lattès, 2008).
