UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, published on June 18, 2020 a report on forced displacement in 2019. An alarming document to read.

Today, more than 1% of humanity is affected by forced displacement.

Indeed, the report reveals alarming statistics. The number of forced displacements has doubled since 2010 and returning in their homeland is increasingly difficult.

“We are witnessing a changed reality in that forced displacement nowadays is not only vastly more widespread but is simply no longer a short-term and temporary phenomenon,” said UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi.

Amongst the most impacted in 2019 are Syria, Venezuela, Afghanistan, South Soudan and Myanmar. New worrisome displacement are also happening in Democratic Republic of the Congo, the Sahel and Yemen.
