Normandie pour la paix
  • About
The Normandy for Peace initiative is the result of the Region’s desire to continue the work which began in 1945 to promote remembrance in Normandy and to become a laboratory for lasting peace. During the World Forum and throughout the year, initiatives, certified projects and events promote the values of peace and freedom which are so important to Normandy.

Education for peace, raising awareness of geopolitical questions and remembrance are at the heart of Normandy for Peace. The Region draws on high-level scientific expertise, developed within a hub of academic expertise on issues related to peace. Young people occupy an important role within the World Forum and the events created and supported by the Normandy Region throughout the year.

The D-Day Landings of 6 June 1944 were a decisive turning point in the Second World War: the liberation of France and Europe began on Normandy’s beaches. It was in Normandy, 70 years ago, that today's world began to take shape. Over the last 70 years, our region has established itself as a tourist destination which is closely linked to remembrance: visitors from every country and every generation come here to learn about and remember those who worked for peace.

Normandy for Peace network

Set in motion by the Normandy Region, Normandy for Peace is developing through the involvement of partners and a network of NGOs, think tanks, and international and regional relays who are leading the initiative and helping it take root and grow in the area.

The network is called upon to guide the programming of the World Peace Forum and fuels the resource centre dedicated to major international issues.
