Leslie Cloud

Leslie Cloud is a legal researcher specialising in Indigenous peoples' law and asylum law, and is a member of the JUSTIP (Justice and Indigenous Peoples Rights) network. Her research and publications focus on the decolonisation of law and justice, the right to self-determination of Indigenous peoples, modes of recognition of the rights of Indigenous peoples, Indigenous conceptions of law, fundamental rights and justice, Indigenous jurisdictions and institutions, the intercultural interpretation of human rights in justice, the dialogue of legal cultures and transitional justice. She has carried out numerous research projects in Chile, Argentina and Rapa Nui and has contributed to a field study with the Francophone Institute for Justice and Democracy on the violence suffered by the Ba-aka in the Central African Republic during the 2013–2014 crisis. She is the co-author, with Irène Bellier and Laurent Lacroix, of the book Les droits des peuples autochtones. Des Nations unies aux sociétés locales, Paris, L'Harmattan, 2017. Formerly a scientific manager of Indigenous people's research at the CNRS Normandy Chair of Excellence for Peace, she is now in charge of Indigenous people's projects at the Francophone Institute for Justice and Democracy. She also co-hosts a series of webinars on the right to self-determination of Indigenous peoples, 100 years after the arrival of Dekaheh Levi General to the League of Nations.
