Daniel Costantini was named Knight of the National Order of Merit in 1995, Knight of the Legion of Honour in 2001, and Knight of the Order of Academic Palms in 2002. He taught in the ‘Sport-Etudes’ scholastic sports programme from 1975 to 1985 and coached Marseille’s handball team from 1973 to 1985. He then went on to coach the French national men’s handball team from 1985 to 2008. As an athlete, he was a member of the French championship handball team in 1965, 1967, and 1969, and was selected for the French national men’s handball team 10 times. As a coach, he led Marseille’s handball team to national championship victories in 1975 and 1984, as well as in the French Handball Cup in 1976. During his tenure as coach of the French national men’s handball team, his athletes also brought home gold in the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona, silver in the 1993 World Championship in Sweden, and bronze in the 1997 World Championship in Japan, in addition to two World Championship wins in Iceland (1995) and France (2001). He currently works as a TV (BFM) and radio (RMC) consultant. He is President of the ‘Ambition Sport’ Club, created by the French National Olympic and Sports Committee (CNOSF) in 2011.
