Having studied Finance and Business Management at the Ecole Supérieure de Commerce de Paris, Law at the University of Paris Pantheon-Sorbonne and International Relations at the university of Keio (Tokyo), Jean-Paul GUIHAUMÉ began his diplomatic career in 1993 as a specialist in the Far East/Pacific region, with Japanese as his specialist language.

His career, nevertheless, was mainly built in Europe where he held several positions – twice in Berlin, once in London and once in Vienna. He has also been Cultural Advisor and Director of the French Centre for Culture and Cooperation in Egypt.

From September 2014 to August 2017, Jean-Paul GUIHAUMÉ has been Deputy Director at the European Union Directorate.

Appointed General Consul of France and Director of the Maison de France in Rio de Janeiro by decree on 20th April 2017, he took up his duties on 1st September for four years.

Since 4th November 2021, he is the Ambassador and Delegate to the Delegation for the External Action of Territorial Communities (DAECT) in Paris.
