François-Michel Le Tourneau is a geographer, a senior research fellow at the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS in French) and is currently assigned to the iGLOBES International Joint Research Unit (CNRS/The University of Arizona). He is a specialist in the Amazon and has published several books on this region, including L’Amazonie, histoire, géographie, environnement (2019, CNRS Editions), which won the Prix Sophie Barluet in 2019. He is primarily interested in non-destructive ways of life and forest usage and has also organised numerous expeditions to remote areas of the Amazon and French Guiana.
