Elena A. Loukianova is a doctor of legal sciences, and a full professor of law. 

For 32 years she was a professor at the Law Faculty of Lomonossov Moscow State University. 

Until August 2020, she was a professor of the Department of Constitutional and Municipal Law at the Law Faculty of the Higher School of Economics of the National Research University (Moscow). She was fired for disagreeing with Vladimir Putin's authoritarian regime. 

For 4 years (2008-2013) she was also a member of the Russian Civic Chamber. 

Now she is a Professor and co-rector of the Free Moscow University (Brīvā University,  Latvia).

She is the author of over 200 scientific publications.
