Christian Makarian

 

Graduated from the Institut d’Etudes Politiques in Paris and has a doctoral degree in the History of International Relations from the Université Paris I Sorbonne; Christian Makarian worked as a reporter for RTL (1980-1982) before joining the magazine Le Point in 1984 as a political journalist. He was appointed as political editor in 1987 and became a senior reporter and society editor at Le Point in 1992. He started at L’Express in 1999, where he worked as a deputy editor and was responsible for major front page reports, special issues, debates and ideas and the supervision of the newspaper’s international division.  He has worked as Deputy Editorial Manager at L’Express since 2006 and writes a weekly column on foreign politics and international issues. Within the editorial team, he is responsible for major subjects and topics and monitors intellectual developments and cultural approaches in the news. Mr Makarian is often interviewed on radio and television (i<Télé; BFMTV, France 24 and France Inter).

He has also written several books: “Un inconnu nommé Chevènement” (A Stranger Called Chevènement), published by La Table Ronde, Marie, published by Jean-Claude Lattès, translated in 6 languages, “Le choc Jésus-Mahomet” (The Clash between Jesus and Mohamed), published by Jean-Claude Lattès, republished by CNRS Editions, which explains the links between Islam and the West, and, as a coordinator, Les Grands Mythes de l’Histoire de France (The Myths of French History), published by L’Express Poche.

He is also a lecturer and a public speaker and leads national and international meetings and symposiums. He has spoken at the Ecole Polytechnique, other prestigious higher education establishments, embassies in Paris, the Senate, think tanks and professional associations.
