Dave Webb was Chair of the UK National Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (CND) from 2010-2021 and is now a member of CND Council; Convenor of the Global Network Against Weapons and Nuclear Power in Space; a patron of Scientists for Global Responsibility, and a member of the board of both the International Peace Bureau and Abolition 2000.

Dave obtained a D.Phil in Space Physics in 1975 from the University of York in the UK and worked as a post-doctoral research fellow in space physics at Bell Laboratories in New Jersey, USA and at the University of York from 1976-1978. From 1978-1979 he was employed as a Senior Scientific Officer in the Directorate of Scientific and Technical Intelligence at the Ministry of Defence in London. He moved to the Computer Unit at Leeds Polytechnic (now Leeds Beckett University) in 1979, joined the Engineering Department in 1985 and was appointed a Reader in 2000 and a Professor of Engineering in 2003. In 2010 he became Professor of Peace and Conflict Studies and was granted emeritus status after his retirement in July 2012.
