The applications to be a part of the international jury of the 2020 Freedom Prize closed on November 17, 2019. 111 applications from around the world were received against 63 for the first edition. Crucial step of the project, the international jury will meet on 14 and 15 February 2020 in Normandy to designate the 3 finalists of the 2020 Freedom Prize.

79 girls and 32 boys, including 21 Norman applications, 9 applications from other Regions, 81 international applications were sent to be part of the international jury of this second edition of the Freedom Prize.

After studying the files by the organizers of the Freedom Prize, 24 young people were selected. Among them, 15 girls and 9 boys aged 20 years on average. In this jury, 6 come from Normandy (Orne, Manche, Eure, Seine-Maritime), 6 come from France (Vendée, Haute-Savoie, Sarthe, Isère, Var, Essonne) and 12 come from all over the world (Burkina Faso, Madagascar, Togo, United States, Canada, Colombia, Cambodia, India, Spain, Ireland, Lebanon, Egypt).

Varied profiles make up this jury. They are high school students, volunteers in civic service, students (law, psychology, polytechnic, medicine) or employees.

Two days of deliberations in Normandy

This jury will meet on Friday 14 February and Saturday 15 February 2020 in Normandy to examine all the commendable fights for freedom submitted via the call for proposals “Our Freedom Prize 2020”, to deliberate and to select  the 3 finalists of the Freedom Prize 2020. An online vote open from 9th March to 12th April 2020 will decide between them and determine the winner of the second Freedom Prize.

During two days, the deliberations will be supervised and moderatedby the International Institute for Human Rights and Peace, with activities based on the respect of the opinion of others and mobilizing skills such as the ability to work in a team and argumentation.

 

 

The Freedom Prize invites young people aged 15 to 25 from Normandy, other regions of France and around the world to choose an inspiring person or organisation, committed to a recent, exemplary fight for freedom.
