In many countries, political, scientific and media institutions face growing mistrust, driven by “fake news” and by genuine corruption and conflicts of interest. A loss of trust in institutions is a major issue when it comes to managing crisis situations, such as the global pandemic which we are currently experiencing. Doubts with regard to the legitimacy or the effectiveness of the measures which have been taken are likely to exacerbate the effects of the pandemic. How can trust be restored and how can dialogue be ensured?
