Didier Awadi

Author, composer, publisher, producer and director, Didier Awadi is undoubtedly the most visible figure in French-speaking African rap.

He was the winner of the RFI Musiques du Monde prize in 2003, and has had an impeccable career as a pioneer and trailblazer of a musical genre which has become one of the foremost genre for the youth of Africa and the world in recent years. He and his group Positive Black Soul, a pioneer of African rap, have released several albums of unrivalled artistic quality, with a strong European and American following.

Both an artist and entrepreneur, he is an artistic producer, film director and leader of the Studio Sankara group.

Studio Sankara was born in Dakar in 2003 under the leadership of rapper Didier Awadi out of a desire for economic and artistic independence. The Studio Sankara group is a phonographic and audiovisual production agency as well as a communications, events, sound and security company, whose slogan is "Dare to invent the future", the credo of Captain Thomas Sankara (President of Burkina Faso 1983-1987). More than just a company, Studio Sankara is a project of honest entrepreneurship and self-development.

Didier Awadi is the best example of a generation that creates, undertakes and puts the technological possibilities of the modern world and the immemorial cultural achievements of the continent he is rooted in to good use. He harnesses all of this to create music that is always conscious, with roots and messages, through which he addresses the world, because he has things to say to it.
