Resistance takes many different forms in Africa today, from the promotion of human rights and the defence of freedom of expression, particularly in the media, to artistic creativity, religious diplomacy and the assertion of identity. What these different forms of mobilisation or protest often have incommon is that they challenge the models of governance established by many African states, which have not kept their promises in terms of democratisation, security and development, despite the support provided by foreign partners, many of whom are also increasingly challenged.
