Stéphanie Balme is Research Director at the Fondation nationale des sciences politiques (FNSP) and works at the CERI (Centre for International Studies and Research) and Sciences Po. She heads up the ‘Law, Justice and Society in China’ research programme and is an associate researcher at the Institut des Hautes Etudes sur la Justice (IHEJ). A consultant on matters regarding China and the Rule of Law for companies and international organisations, she is a member of the Executive Board of the ECLS (European China Law Studies Association) and member of the selection committee for the Fulei Award. She is also Vice-President of the AERJFC (French-Chinese Legal Study and Research Association) headquartered at the University of Paris V.

Stéphanie Balme, who earned her Accreditation to Direct Research (HDR) in 2016, has a PhD in Political Science, and has diplomas from Sciences Po, INALCO, Sciences Po Bordeaux, Fudan University (Shanghai), and the Faculty of Humanities of Bordeaux.

From 2017 to 2018, she worked at the French Embassy in China, where she was responsible for inter-university cooperation. Her current work focuses on new technologies in China and China’s rise as a new technological powerhouse.

In September 2018, she was named Dean of Sciences Po.
