Asle Toje

Dr. Asle Toje (b. 1974) is the Deputy Leader of the five-member Norwegian Nobel Committee which selects laureates for the Nobel Peace Prize. He is the former Research Director at the Norwegian Nobel Institute in Oslo. 

After completing his PhD at Pembroke College (2006) Toje has lectured and taught at universities in Europe and beyond. 

Among his scholarly works are The European Union as a Small Power (London, Macmillan, 2010) and Will China's rise be peaceful? The rise of a great power in theory, history, politics, and the future (Oxford University Press, 2018) and The Causes of Peace: What we know now (Oslo, 2019). 

Toje is a syndicated columnist and a frequently used pundit in the international media.
