More and more states in Europe and around the world are experiencing a resurgence of populist ideas and polarisation between extremes on their political scene. These trends, which are destabilising the democratic foundations of our societies, are threats to the protection of human rights and freedom. 

Faced with this hysteria, what initiatives could be put forward and what role could civil society play in giving new impetus to our democracies?
