On Thursday 1 October at 8pm, The Cave, a documentary by Firas Fayyad, supported by the Normandy Region and in partnership with the association Docs Up Fund, will be screened in the Forum’s plenary hall.

In Syria, in the besieged area of Ghouta, which suffered the worst chemical attack in 25 years, local inhabitants have built a makeshift hospital in the bowels of the earth which resembles an enormous cave. While the conflict rages on, the paediatrician Amani Ballour tries to do her job, including dealing with patients who refuse to be treated by a woman. It’s up to her to save lives, to comfort patients and their families, to find medicine and to feed the hospital’s staff and the patients.

Nominated at the 2020 Oscars for Best Documentary, Firas Fayyad’s film follows the working life of this devoted woman in the midst of the Syrian civil war.

Dr Amani Ballour will attend the screening! She will discuss with the public her experience and the conditions in Syria.
