The concept of genocide immediately conjures up images of the Holocaust and other mass killings, such as those that took place in Cambodia and Rwanda. Although history witnessed large-scale atrocities and massacres well before the middle of the 20th century, this term has only officially existed since the end of the Second World War. Through a fictitious trial, firmly anchored in current events, young people will be immersed in the workings of the first permanent international criminal court, to unpick the various challenges involved in defining and recognising genocide.
