Débat Afghanistan: is peace impossible? Edition 2021 Start of the session 01 October 2021 14h30 End of the session 01 October 2021 16h30 Salle plénière Despite international military and financial mobilisation on a massive scale, including the presence of foreign troops on the ground for two decades in Afghanistan, Kaboul fell to the Talibans on August 15. Talks with the Talibans only served to take back power, obscuring the sacrifice of 3613 servicemen of the international coalition, 69 000 soldiers and afghan policemen and more than 60 000 civilians including many children. Are peace and stability still achievable in Afghanistan, when Talibans seem to be willing to run the country in an obscurantist way as they did between 1996 and 2001? What is the price of peace?
