It can be argued that reporting is a hybrid of news and literature: because it involves storytelling (like a novel) yet is based on investigation and rooted in reality, and because it combines good writing with rigorous truth-seeking. How, and to what extent, does this kind of journalism use literary tools to serve its documentary purpose? And with so many reporters turning to novel-writing as a medium of expression at some point in their careers, the gap between reporting and writing is narrowing. But is it closing altogether?
