This complex conflict pits the internationally recognised government against the Houthi rebels and southern separatists. The country’s geostrategically important position – between the Middle East and the Horn of Africa – is attracting attention and interference from Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Iran, all major rivals engaged in conflict by proxy.
