4th edition of the Freedom Prize

The Freedom Prize is an educational initiative which aims to raise awareness of freedom, peace and Human rights, inspired by the values of the D-Day landings of 6 June 1944 in Normandy. The Freedom Prize invites young people aged 15 to 25 from France and around the world to choose an inspiring person or organisation, committed to an exemplary fight for freedom. What makes this prize so special is that it involves young people at each of its stages: from the proposals submitted to the international panel of judges to the final selection of the laureate.

Who will succeed Greta Thunberg, Loujain Al-Hathloul and Sonita Alizada? 


From June 18, 2021, young people aged 15 to 25 from all countries are invited to participate in the call for proposals “Our Freedom Prize 2022” in order to submit the candidacy of a person or an organization whose the fight for freedom particularly affects them.

Created by the Normandy Region, in partnership with the International Institute for Human Rights and Peace, the Academic Authorities of Normandy and Canopé, the Freedom Prize is an educational device whose objective is to educate young people generation to freedom, peace and human rights, anchored in the values ​​carried by the Landing of June 6, 1944 in Normandy. In addition to access to the general public, schools and associations can register for the educational program set up by the International Institute for Human Rights and Peace, until September 17, 2021.

In collaboration with teachers and associations, the Institute thus offers to support the reflection of young people on freedom and commitment, and to understand the drafting of the call for proposals form "Our Freedom Prize 2022".

 

Freedom Prize 2022: A 3 stage initiative

 

  1. The call for proposals "Our Freedom Prize 2022", until January 10, 2022.
  2. The international panel of judges: the call for applications is open to young people aged 15 to 25 from all over the world from September 1 to November 15, 2021. Once composed, the jury will meet in Caen the week of February 7, 2022 to study all the proposals “Our 2021 Freedom Prize” and designate the three nominated personalities or organizations.
  3. The online vote: accessible from March 15 to April 25, 2022, will elect the laureate.

The Freedom Prize ceremony will take place during the Normandy 2022 World Forum to present the winner with the trophy and a check for 25,000 euros to support their fight.
