Since 2017, this social and cultural scientist, trained in Cologne, Paris and Göttingen, has been Ludwig Börne Professor at the University of Giessen, where he has been teaching political science since 1989 and where he currently heads the interdisciplinary "Panel on Planetary Thinking". From 2007 to 2017, Claus Leggewie was Director of the Institute for Cultural Sciences (KWI) in Essen, and from 2008 to 2016 he was a member of the German Federal Government's Scientific Advisory Committee on Global Environmental Change (WBGU). He has held visiting professorships and fellowships at the University of Paris-Nanterre, the Institute for Human Sciences (IWM) in Vienna and the Wissenschaftskolleg in Berlin, and holds the position of Max Weber Chair at New York University and Honorary Fellow at the Thomas Mann House in Los Angeles.
