The war in Ukraine has revealed vulnerabilities in Europe in terms of defence and dependence on the US and NATO. European countries have nevertheless managed to unite to support Ukraine and significantly increase their military spending. 

However, this is still limited progress in a fragile situation in which multiple, geopolitical tensions are making it more vital than ever to assert a European foreign policy and defence agenda.
