Nicole Gnesotto is the holder of the European Union Chair and president of the Board of the "Institut des hautes études de défense nationale" (IHEDN). She spent a large part of her career at the Council of the European Union. Specializing in strategic issues, she was the first director of the Institute for Security Studies of the European Union from 2001 to 2007, after having been Deputy leader of the Center for Analysis and Forecasting at the Quai d'Orsay.
Nicole Gnesotto is graduate in modern literature from Ecole Normale Supérieure (Cachan) and holds a DEA in history. She is also vice-president of the Notre Europe Foundation, created by Jacques Delors, vice-president of the Scientific Council for Training and Strategic Research (CSFRS), a former member of 2013 White Paper Commission on Defense and National Security, associate personality of the Economic, Social and Environmental Council (CESE), member of the European Commission's network of experts (Cordis) and member of the editorial board of Esprit magazine.
Professor at Science Po, officer-in-charge under the direct order of the President of the French Institute of International Relations (Ifri).
